Fall is a very busy time at the Manara Academy. We are practicing for Student Led Conferences, finalizing our FALL Expedition, and having some FALL fun ... here are some highlights from the last couple weeks.

2 Weeks ago at the Community Circle -- Fatima Sowe received the Exemplary Explorer award for Collaboration. She used those collaboration skills with her classmate -- Christuan Young in the All Star Team Challenge competition. Christuan and Fatima beat out the rest of Kinder and 1st and 2nd graders in the move the beach ball with the rubber band contest!  CONGRATULATIONS!  This is the FIRST time EVER that my class won the Competition! YAY!!!

LUNCH MADE EASIER

Thank you to Ms. Frye for writing the Donor's Choose Project and THANK YOU to everyone who funded the project!

The kids now have trays to carry their lunches on! We also received many bottles of KID and FOOD safe sanitizing spray from Clorox to keep the trays clean! We won't have apples rolling, salads flying, cinnamon apples and peaches spilling, and forks flopping all through the hallway ... YAY!!!!

The trays have also made the classroom cleaner .... the kids keep their food on the CLEAN trays, which keeps the tables from getting STICKY and GRIMY!

LOVE the TRAYS!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing all of you at SLC's this week!!!!

P U M P K I N S

We've been busy learning the life cycle of pumpkins, finding out what's inside a pumpkin, weighing, measuring, drawing and writing about pumpkins ... we are now PUMPKIN EXPERTS!

The children used cubes and links to measure how tall and links to measure around their pumpkins -- they worked in teams and collaborated to make sure their work was accurate.

Next, we weighed the pumpkins -- we used milk and hand sanitizer and added up the ounces when our scale balanced. Some pumpkins weighed as much as 60 ounces and some as little as 6 ounces.

Not enough! This pumpkin is heavy!!!!

We needed to add a lot to get the scale balanced.

Let's put on more! This is not balanced!!!

GETTING READY FOR THE FALL FESTIVAL!!!!!!

The kids had fun making pumpkins, apples, and leaves as decorations for the FALL FESTIVAL

He showed the children pictures of planes he has flown, what he carries in his suitcase, and all of his flight plan manuals-that now fit on an iPAD, and a printout of a flight plan. He was a great Community Helper visitor!!! Especially since our school is right next to the airport!
