Week 2

If your children say they don't know what they did at school ... here are a few things that will help them remember a few of the things we did during week TWO!

Our HOMES this week was Responsibility -- we linked Responsibility with learning about our school tools and how we need to take care of them and use them.

The children began using their HOMES Tracker and colored the Responsibility picture. After voting, we decided BLUE would be our Responsibility color and we began putting beads in our jar for actions this week that showed the class being Responsible.

In ART ... Mr. Riehl had the children make goggles and then made our class this cute poster!

In MATH, we learned the TEN LITTLE MONSTERS song and the children are working on their Ten Little Monster "book" ... it should be ready by Tuesday for them to bring home.

I also read Ten Black Dots to the kids and they will begin their own Ten Black Dots book this week!

We had an 8th grade helper this week! He was a BIG help! He helped the kids open things at lunch time, and read a couple stories to them during DEAR time.

During CREW time we are reading a poem a day and trying to figure out what the children will do next, during their BUSY DAY!
Mrs. E's CREW!

I read The Kissing Hand and the children traced their hands
to take home to give to their parents ... just in case their parents miss them during the school day!

We read all these books during ELA and discussed, sequencing and mysteries and rhyming!

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!

In June, I'm always very sad to see my class graduate and move on to Grade 1 ... but in August, I'm SUPER EXCITED to meet my new children that will go on the Kindergarten Journey with me and their new friends! Your children will be learning a LOT of things in Kindergarten ... some of my favorites are learning to read, writing sentences in their journals, community helpers, me on the map, rocks & minerals, the water cycle, insects, life cycle of plants and animals, butterflies, shapes, graphing, adding and subtracting!
Kindergarten is always exciting and lots of fun!
ENOY THE PICS!
AUGUST 19, 2015 -- WELCOME TO THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!

We had Mr. Riehl (our Art Teacher) visit our classroom a few times the first week to read a few of his favorite picture books!

We discussed how we would get to First Grade by reading the book Things That Go!
We designed our class bulletin board by choosing which mode of transportation is how we learn!

Playground FUN ... Choosing sides for a quick football game!
Playing FRISBEE with the GIANT soft Frisbees!

Our Kindergarten classes participate in a partnership with the Crow Museum of Asian Art
The program is called Lotus Learners / Artful Thinking
The children will learn yoga and critical thinking through looking at pieces of artwork during the year.  On Friday, August 21, the Kindergarten Team and Mr. Riehl travelled to the Crow Museum for training. It was an adventure! We took the DART Train! We learned some very cool things and can't wait to share the Artful Thinking method with the children!
