SHAPES

Working on drawing shapes, writing shape words and making a picture from shapes ...

Today we read The Shape of Things, and discussed how there are shapes in things we see every day. The children saw shapes in houses, boats, trains, at carnivals, and even in flying a kite! After we read the story, I gave the children Tangrams ... at first they had a hard time making pictures with the shapes - then they started coming up with GREAT ideas!

The children were then given graph paper to start planning their shape project picture.

Transferring their work from pieces to paper is hard work!

 

This is a bird -- a PHOENIX to be exact! I can't wait to see how the finished

products come out ... we will continue this project tomorrow!

 

 

 

OUR WEEK

This week the children worked VERY hard! We're still working on dot-to-dots for morning work, we practiced writing letter Aa and Tt, working on our numbers 1 - 10 and the number words, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine & ten. We're learning about the differences in our cultures, and have begun talking about the United States and George Washington. Here are a few pictures from our week ....

 Fine motor center

The fine motor center helps children gain strength in their thumbs and index fingers to help with cutting, writing, and drawing. Please have your child practice cutting, coloring, and writing at home.

LUNCH ... these boys are BIG TIME eaters .... and LOVED the baked potatoes! They ate them an unusual way .... like a HOT DOG!

WRITING JOURNALS!

Today we began writing in our writing journals! The children did a fantastic job. We have been talking about our school tools ... pencils, scissors, crayons, glue, books, writing journals and the correct way to use them and how they need to be responsible when using them. They finished the writing prompt: My favorite school tool is _____________.

Ask your child if they can find their journal!

LOTUS LEARNERS

We are very lucky to have partnered with the CROW MUSEUM this year and are piloting a program called Lotus Learners. We will incorporate Yoga and Art into our morning meetings. The children will look at a new piece of art every two weeks and learn new YOGA poses.  A great way to jumpstart the brain each morning ... Throughout the year we will visit the CROW Museum and in the Spring the CROW will also host a Manara Academy Family Night -- we are very excited about this program ... I LOVE YOGA and ART!!!!!
