EXPEDITION INFORMATION

ALL ABOUT ME -- MATH and ALL ABOUT ME

I will be sending these home on Monday or Tuesday (August 24 or 25th) ... Please return them by Monday (August 31) THANK YOU!!!!!!

ME ON THE MAP Paperdoll .... The paper dolls will be due on September 8.  You can use Markers, cloth, construction paper -- BE CREATIVE!!!!  You will also have a piece of paper for the child to make the flag of the country as well!

NEW UPDATE - September 10, 2014
We have been reading a book called Children Around the World ... we also had a "fun" break yesterday.  I gave the girls and the boys a World Map Puzzle .... I heard some wonderful words -- "we need a leader", "we need a strategy", "let's look at the picture to see how the puzzle looks finished". The children worked wonderfully together .... they figured out how to put a puzzle together by collaborating -- and they got to see the WORLD come together ....

The girls did finish their puzzle first -- but ALL the kids did a great job working together to achieve a goal!

We have started our Me on the Map portion of our FALL Expedition ... We do most of our projects in class, but this one is done at home with parents.  It is a chance for parents to explain to children about their culture (i.e. food, clothes, customs, traditions). A wonderful learning experience. I love this project because the children make paper dolls at home with their parents ....

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Palestine, Ireland, India, Mexico, United States

The children also made All About Me Posters ... drew or printed a picture of their family, their favorite food and their wish ....

The first phase of our Expedition is ALL ABOUT ME
The children will be bringing home a "paper doll".  This paper doll will be dressed in clothes from the home country of the child / family -- information will be sent home on Thursday, August 28. I will post a picture of a sample "paper doll" later this week.

Below is a SAMPLE of what the paper doll should look like. The doll is a representation of the child's / family home country .... Each child should be able to tell a little about his/her culture or family traditions - i.e. foods, clothes, holidays, etc.  Each doll should accompany the a depiction of the flag of the home country. -- Directions and more information will be sent home on Thursday.

SAMPLE
As you can see this sample uses fabric for the clothes and marker for the hair.
They also used paper for the flower in the girls hair and beads for a necklace.
