Manara Monarch Migration

Yesterday, the children were got a preview of our Spring Expedition, right in our own backyard! These beautiful Monarch Butterflies are migrating and decided to spend a few days in these lovely bushes right next to our playground. The children got to see busy bees gorging on pollen, wasps buzzing around, and beautiful monarch butterflies getting their fill of nectar. What a wonderful learning moment!!

The children practiced being very quiet so as not to scare the butterflies. They realized that the bees would leave them alone if they did not swat at them. The bees were very busy gathering pollen ... what was really neat is that if you got very close to them, you could see their "cheeks" filled with bright yellow pollen.

These bushes are behind our school, next to the playground and are in FULL BLOOM and smell INCREDIBLE! What a great place for the butterflies to visit!

If you click on the the picture above,  you will see bees and butterflies living in harmony!

This is the best picture of the bee that I could get!

  1. Love this! Clint was talking about the butterflies. That's so cool that they are right there behind the school!
